Computer Wizard offers computer services for both consumer and commercial clients.
We provide a comprehensive set of services and can fix most computer related issues quickly with minimum cost to our customers.

In-shop service is a cost-effective way to get your computer fixed.

Although it is not an instant service, you can drop your computer off, and in most cases pick it up the next day. We service computers on a first come, first serve basis. In the event your PC cannot be repaired quickly, one of our technicians will contact you and let you know. We strive to keep our customers informed at every step of the repair process.

You can bring in or pick up your computer during normal business hours: Mon-Thu 9am-7pm and Fri-Sat 9am-5pm.

Our in-shop service provides the same quality of service as on-site, but some repairs may require on-site maintenance.

We provide the following hardware repair services:

• Troubleshooting for desktop computers; i.e. PC will not boot, is noisy, slow etc.
• Installation of new hardware
• Troubleshooting connection problems with external devices such as printers, digital cameras, etc
• Data recovery from failing hard drives
• A consultant can assist you with choosing the right hardware for your needs

We also provide the following specialized hardware repair services:

• Laptop hardware repairs such as keyboard problems, broken power jacks, malfunctioning or broken screens and more.
• Data recovery from a hard drive that is mechanically damaged - this requires special knowledge and equipment to fix. We can attempt to access the damaged drive using special techniques developed for data recovery

We can provide you with the following software-related services:

• Virus, spyware, adware, and root kit clean up.
• While we can remove most viruses, they sometimes leave the operating system in a crippled condition, and a full system restore might be necessary to return full functionality.
• Optimization to improve computer performance - in many cases the slowness is not due to infections, just too many unnecessary applications running.
• Troubleshooting installation problems - if the software failed to install properly, or it installs but doesn't function correctly, we will find the problem and correct it.
• E-mail software such as Outlook and Thunderbird troubleshooting.
• Remote Assistance to help identify and repair software-related issues such as problems installing software, drive issues, printing issues, etc.
• A consultant can assist you with choosing the right software for your needs.

Unfortunately, we can't help in the following cases:

• Issues involving highly specialized software that is not generally available. For example: proprietary corporate software, custom made database applications, etc.
• Installation of software that is of questionable legality, such as installation of Windows from a homemade CD or a product key without a COA.
• Help with any software that serves unethical or illegal means. For example, software used for sending out spam e-mails, cloaking software used to hide questionable online activities, etc.

Laptop Broken?

We can provide the following laptop repair services:

• Broken power jack repair.
• Replacement of broken or defective LCD panels.
• Repair of broken or damaged laptop hinges and LCD bezels.
• Replacement of broken or damaged keyboards.

Some things you should know about Laptop Power Jack Repair

Symptoms of a broken power jack:

• The laptop only runs when you keep the power cord in a certain direction.
• The laptop only runs on battery power.
• The laptop will not charge the battery.
• The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently.
• The unit shuts off unexpectedly.
• Sparks come out of the back of the laptop.

The wrong information some repair centers give:

While many conventional computer repair centers are aware of this issue and will refer you to us or another reputable repair shop, most will not. Many, including the large nationwide stores and the laptop's manufacturer, will either tell you the machine is not repairable or that it needs a new motherboard. These quotes usually range from $500 - $800.

How jacks break:

• Some power jacks fail under normal operation of your computer. After a year or two of usage, parts just 'come loose' on certain models.
• Sometimes the laptop gets dropped and the cord yanks the jack loose.
• People and pets trip over laptop power cords on a daily basis.
• The laptop is moved around a lot. After the jack is moved back and forth enough times, it comes loose.

This is a repair we do on a daily basis on ALL brands of laptops for customers all over the Chippewa Valley. We have most jacks available in stock and charge a flat rate of $150 which covers all parts and labor.
